The most popular aesthetic surgery procedures worldwide
The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) has published statistics on the surgical and non-surgical procedures that are carried out around the world. The following information comes from the official ISAPS data derived from 35.000 plastic surgeons worldwide.
There was an increase in the total number of surgeries of about 9%. The top 5 countries with the most surgical procedures taking place are the USA, Brazil, Japan, Italy and Mexico. Greece is 15th worldwide, with 1.2% of the total number of operations globally.
When it comes to the surgeries themselves, the top spot is still held by breast augmentation (15,8%) and is followed by liposuction (14%), blepharoplasty (12,9%), rinoplasty (7,6%) and abdominoplasty (7,4%).
The most popular non-surgical procedure is injectable botulinum toxin (Botox) followed by injectable hyaluronic acid, hair removal, photoreduction, chemical peeling, non-invasive skin tightening, non-invasive fat reduction, microdermabrasion and non-invasive cellulite reduction.
It is interesting that there has been a significant increase in surgeries on the female genitalia, lifting in both the upper and lower body, and buttock lift.
Women comprise the majority of patients (86,2%) and mainly opt for breast augmentation (silicone implants), liposuction, blepharoplasty, abdominoplasty and breast lift. Men (13,8%) mainly opt for blepharoplasty, gynecomastia, rinoplasty, liposuction and hair transplant.
